Marie Fredriksson surprises fans with jazz release
Marie Fredriksson is known to most people as one half of the legendary pop duo Roxette and as a solo artist with big hits like “Ännu doftar kärlek” and “Tro”. Her solo career and Roxette have run parallel throughout Marie’s career, something that has always felt completely natural. Over the years, the band has toured the world several times and, with 75 million albums sold and countless chart-toppers, Roxette is one of the world’s most successful bands ever.
In 2013, Marie released the solo album “Nu!” and in 2015 she published her autobiography “Love of Life”, which she co-wrote with author Helena von Zweigbergk. Early last year, 1.5 years into Roxette’s “30th Anniversary Tour”, she and her colleague Per Gessle announced that, on Marie’s doctor’s advice, they had to cancel the rest of the tour.
Since deciding to give up touring altogether, Marie has found her way back to an extremely dear old friend: jazz music. What many people may not realise is that it was in jazz and blues that her lifelong love of music began. She started her professional career as a singer singing jazz in various cafés and clubs. The idea of picking up jazz again has followed her for many years and just in time for her own birthday on 30 May, the time has finally come. Together with two of Sweden’s most established musicians in the genre, Magnus Lindgren (saxophone) and Max Schultz (guitar), she is now releasing her first pure jazz release Alone Again on the legendary Amigo label.
“This is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time, and it feels right to do it now. Jazz and the blues have always meant a lot to me, and I love this song.”
