“Small Apartments” is the Jonas Åkerlund comedy from last year in which “Little Britain’s” Matt Lucas accidentally murders his landlord (Peter Stormare).

Ahead of the upcoming DVD release, in the shadow of this summer’s Gyllene Tider reunion, the Per Gessle-signed soundtrack is now being released. The Halmstad pop star was asked by Åkerlund during Roxette’s monstrous world tour in 2011. Due to time constraints, Gessle reused solo material, mainly from the album “Son of a Plumber”.

The music stands in stark contrast to the “Pretty Woman” piano ballads. Using gentle folk-pop, bells and chimes, Gessle creates a colourful but pleasant atmosphere not unlike the Badly Drawn Boys’ “About a Boy”. You can see a myopic pop nerd, too often hidden behind layers of corporate make-up.
